In what comes as shocking news, Desperate Housewives' upcoming eighth season will be its last. It is being reported that ABC will make the announcement official on Sunday at the Television Critics Association's press tour.

Key cast members of the show have already been told, and are apparently saddened that the long-running dramedy will be coming to an end. Showrunner Marc Cherry had previously expressed that he would like Desperate Housewives to continue for nine seasons, but himself recently departed the show to focus on developing other projects. This upcoming season will be the series' first without him at the helm.

On the air since 2004, Desperate Housewives has continued to be a front-running show for ABC to this day. It has consistently brought in very healthy ratings in its Sunday night time slot, and has also garnered critical praise, winning multiple Emmys and Screen Actors Guild awards.
