SYTYCD Renewed For Season 9

Fox has picked up So You Think You Can Dance for next summer.

Fox announced today that it has renewed So You Think You Can Dance for a ninth season, making it the network's second competition series renewal of the day. MasterChef was picked up as well for a third season.

So You Think You Can Dance has been going strong for eight seasons on Fox, airing primarily during summers. The network experimented with putting it on in the fall of 2009, airing back-to-back seasons only one month apart. However the show was reverted back to summers only after mediocre ratings likely made Fox wary of overexposure of the format.

No premiere date has been announced for Season 9 of SYTYCD, but a Fox press release for the renewal calls the show "America's favorite summer dance competition series", pointing to a summer 2012 return.
