The animated series is axed after six episodes.
May 14, 2012
Fox has cancelled freshman sitcom Napoleon Dynamite after its first season on the air. The animated show, which followed characters from the live-action 2004 film of the same name, was left off of the network's 2012-2013 schedule.
Napoleon Dynamite aired its finale on March 4, 2012 after a short six-episode season.

This show was so much better than Bobs Burgers. Everyone should just refuse to watch Fox. Turn off the TV and get on the internet you fools.

As a follow up to my comment I sent them en email about a DVD release here’s what happened:
I sent asfox a question about a DVD release for the show and they directed me to Fox Connect, I asked them and after 4 days they sent this reply:
“Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for your interest in purchasing Twentieth Century Fox products. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have information in regard to if or when the title that you have inquired about will be released on DVD. We truly apologize for the inconvenience and we will be happy to assist you further if you have any additional questions and/or concerns.
Thank you,
Customer Careâ€
They don’t know. I find that surprising considering how long it’s been.
I replied asking them if they could direct to me another person or department email that would know or if they could at least give me a time frame on when the decision will be made. They replied with the EXACT SAME response. They didn’t even try to answer my question.
Awful.

Unfortunately, this is Fox being the terrible network they've always been. ND had better ratings than Bob's Burgers, but they only aired half the Bob episodes they paid for. So instead of renewing the show with better ratings, they renew the show that already has episodes paid for and produced.
In addition, ND managed to pull in decent ratings with the typical Fox BS. Only 6 episodes, 2 week breaks in between every episode except one, airing against the grammys. Fox really mishandled the show's scheduling.
Bob's Burgers episodes still have pretty terrible ratings, but now they are close to having enough episodes to sell the syndication rights that they'll keep it that long at least.
If you still care, sign the petition and share it with your friends and family:

I liked this show, as I love the movie. Unfortunately, ND is a movie that people either adore, or despise; not much wiggle room. I was hoping for a sequel or spinoff TV series based on the movie. Naturally, when I heard the animated series was being made, I was excited about it. At the same time, however, I figured it was going to be received in the same fashion as the movie: LOVED or LOATHED. With television (especially network tv), that generally doesn't translate to long lived shows. People will tune in to a show they mildly enjoy, not one they hate. When a show gets low ratings, (regardless of their targeted demographic), then sponsors won't purchase advertisment time during that time slot on that channel. Television is a very competitive business. Now with that said, I would like to see them explore other avenues of projection. Cable could be an option, albeit not a very likely one; and then there's always the internet. I was really hoping that it would last as a series; I guess there just wasn't enough dick and fart jokes. Too bad :-(
