It is being reported that Comedy Central will not renew Futurama past its current season. The animated comedy has 13 episodes left to air, which can be seen starting on June 19 with the series finale scheduled for September 4, 2013.

Futurama, which is in only its seventh season despite premiering 14 years ago, has had its fair share of ups and downs over the course of its run. The show started out on FOX back in 1999, where it aired for four years before getting the axe due to low ratings. Adult Swim picked up the rights to air reruns, which did well on the network, prompting a re-launch in 2007 with four direct-to-DVD movies. Comedy Central then aired the movies broken down into episodes, eventually deciding to order seasons 6 & 7, bringing the series up to 140 total episodes.

Producers are said to be exploring options to continue the series elsewhere, but the likelihood of that happening is unknown at this point in time.
