BBC America's original drama will not return.
September 19, 2013
BBC America has decided to cancel Copper after two seasons on the air. The period drama was the cable network's first original scripted drama, but ultimately failed to attract a large enough audience in its second season.

BBC America has already cancelled Cooper. They ended it with a horrific cliffhanger, because even the writers didn’t know there wasn’t going to be a season 3. BBC committed an injustice on its viewers.

I was having a pop at the BBC who have refused to pick up the show brocast on a commercial arm of the BBC. They could have picked it up for broadcast in the UK but didn't . It is a good programme better than a lot of the we get at the moment. never mind i managed to see it so and cannot understand it being cancelled. The ending was left up in the air, perhaps another company might pick it up. I am sorry if you think i offended you in some way.

Dodgy Dave do you not understand how this works. The UK taxpayers do not pay for BBC America or BBC Canada the American or Canadian taxpayers do with their cable fees. Also we pay BBC UK for the brit shows that are aired in either America or Canada. So get off your high horse and appreciate the fact that you can see this show other ways. As for it's cancelation most networks do not give a show enough of a chance. Many shows flounder in the 2nd season and rally in the 3rd. This was a fantastic show that was pulled way to soon and I am very sad to see it go.

Shame this show was cancelled. Alas, it seems period dramas on TV are very hit or miss with audiences. Downton Abbey and Spartacus do very well, while shows like Copper and Deadwood, not so much.

you hit the nail on the head...any quality show goes right over the heads of the simpletons who rule and watch television these days...if you can't tweet or vote for something on the show nobody watches, especially the 18-45 yr. old "target audience" the sponsors love.....

I really enjoyed the show, the settings, the dialogue, the costumes (or lack of) and the daring to deal with social issues still with us today.

It is all about money I know ... in order to make that money you have to dumb down ... sad ..but true ... there is some really awful tv out there ..but it appeals to the masses ..and the masses rule. Seems everyone sells out ... PBS use to be the last bastion and BBC I was hoping would be the same ...with Broadchurch and the The Hour ... wonderful productions.

If they had brought Reba McEntire into the show as a character - as I advised the BBC - we wouldn't be discussing the end of this series. Using my connections, I made sure my mission statement got into an interoffice memo loop at BBC at the end of the beginning of the second season because I could see problems. Oh well. I did what I could.

What a stupid ending so oviously contrived to end the show on a high note.
