The new drama is off to a strong start.
January 17, 2015
Fox announced today that its newest drama Empire has been renewed for a second season. The freshman series, which premiered earlier this month, is off to an impressive start for the network. Its premiere episode on January 7 topped the night with a 3.8 rating in the adults 18-49 demo, and its second episode built on that with a 4.0.
While still early, it's clear that Fox has a potential hit on its hands. If the show's numbers continue to be this strong, Empire will not only be the top new series of the season, but also one of the top-rated broadcast shows on television.

I love this show! Kevin you should of given it a chance, great story with some music thrown in but not a ton. This show is to rap like Nashville is to country. (I watch both.so glad it already got a second season. For the record I am a white woman race is stupid to bring into this, it's just a fantastic show.

After the first 8 minutes of pure music, I just shut it off. I know that the show is about a music mogul and his family of musicians, and the music wasn't bad either. If I wanted to listen to music, though, I'd just listen to music. Would someone who has seen a couple of episodes please tell me whether it continues in that vein or if it has a story? I don't want to spend time watching TV to listen to music. That's what Spotify is for.

I love this show. Glad it got a second season. And im sure there are more than just black people watching this show or it wouldnt have gotten renewed. And yet again the racial issue rears its head. And maybe not blatantly, but from some of the posts,(and some yet to come most likely, lol) on here, I can tell that we have a few undercover bigots trying to get their jabs in subtly and between the lines. In life you can tell who these people are by the way they say certain usually benign words like "rap music" for example. Its one thing to say, "Oh I dont really listen to rap music" plain and even toned all the way through but then there are those who when they get to the words "rap music" in that sentence, they say it guterally like they're the most foul, repulsive words that ever fell out of their mouths. Those are the people who arent fooling anyone but themselves. We see you!

Also the show from my understanding plans to address many taboo issues in the African American music culture. I'm not only interested in learning more about these issues but I'm interested in how many of my African American coworkers feel about the show. We've had conversations and they all confirm that the show has many realistic issues that are addressed in the African American community. I'm happy Fox has given this show a chance and look forward to see the direction the show will go.

White Americans watch this show as well. Being a white male in Tuscaloosa, Alabama it's an interesting show that has good writing, a cast that seems to work well together, and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Must be a lot of blacks that they poll for the numbers. 2 episodes air and it already gets a second season? Jeez. This show doesn't even look interesting to me.
