BET announced today that Being Mary Jane has been renewed for a fourth season. The good news comes three weeks after the show's third season finale, which capped another successful season for the Gabrielle Union-led drama. Over the course of its run, Being Mary Jane has been the top-rated scripted cable series among African American viewers aged 18-49.

Production on Season 4 is scheduled to begin later in the year. The new season will be the first without creator and showrunner Mara Brock Akil, who departed the series in May after signing an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. A new showrunner has yet to be announced.
