Netflix announced today that production has begun on new episodes of Making a Murderer, the true-crime series that premiered late last year and quickly captured viewers' interest with its gripping story of Steven Avery, a DNA-exonerated man who became the suspect of a new grisly crime.

The show's original 10-episode run also scored big with critics, who hailed its effective storytelling and comprehensive nature. Earlier this month it picked up six Emmy Award nominations, including one for Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Series.

The new episodes of Making a Murderer will delve back into the case, with updates on both Steven Avery and his co-accused, Brendan Dassey, as their legal teams fight the state over their convictions. Executive producers and directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos will be returning to document the events as they unfold.
