The improv series will be back on The CW.
October 24, 2016
The CW has renewed Whose Line Is It Anyway? for another season. The long-running improvisational comedy series, which originally ran from 1998 to 2007 on ABC, was revived by The CW in 2013 and added as part of its off-season lineup.
Today's pickup will see the show returning for its fifth season on The CW in summer 2017.

I agree with the less singing and stupid guest stars but it seems like the producers threw the guest stars in as a requirement for new seasons. Improv isn't exactly the most in demand genre of comedy and it is one way for them to advertise their own content so the time slot seems like less of a wasted space.
