Fans of The Good Place can breathe a little easier today, as NBC has given an early renewal to the freshman series. The good news comes just weeks after the half-hour comedy concluded its 13-episode debut run, which ended with a twist of a cliffhanger that almost demanded the series return to continue the story.

The Good Place comes from creator Michael Schur, who also co-created and wrote for Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Parks and Recreation, among others. The series stars Kirsten Bell as a woman of questionable character who mistakenly ends up in an ideal afterlife akin to heaven. Ted Danson also stars as the architect who created the seemingly-utopian community.

Premiering last fall as part of the network's fall lineup, The Good Place was a modest performer over the course of its run. While many viewers have questioned why the show wasn't picked up for additional first-season episodes, NBC had always stated that it was meant for shorter-length seasons. And like Season 1, Season 2 of The Good Place will also consist of 13 episodes.
