FX, along with the United Kingdom's BBC One, have jointly announced that Taboo has been renewed for a second season. The period drama, which is produced out of the UK, premiered earlier this year for both British and U.S. audiences with an initial 8-episode run.

Led by Tom Hardy, the high-profile series has resonated with viewers in both regions and has garnered generally positive reviews from critics. Its popularity with younger audiences has seen it become one of the more digitally-viewed and time-shifted shows on both FX and BBC One.

Taboo takes place in the year 1814, where the son of a despised shipping tycoon has returned to London after being away in Africa for 10 years. Believed to be long-dead, he is now back as a changed man, ready to inherit what is left of his deceased father's empire and rebuild his life.

Another eight episodes have been ordered for Season 2, though no time frame for a return has been announced as of yet.
