The comedy will end after three seasons.
June 30, 2017
It is being reported that The Carmichael Show will be coming to an end after its current third season. The news comes on the same day that the cast's options are due to expire, with statements being released by both the network and creator Jerrod Carmichael confirming that the show would not be returning.
The Carmichael Show was inspired by the aforementioned comedian's life and his relationships with his family and girlfriend. The half-hour series drew decent ratings during its three mid-season runs, while garnering its share of acclaim for its take on current social and political issues.
Seven episodes remain in the show's current season, with the series finale expected to air in August.

I want to know why I always come to forums like this and criticize African-American sitcoms? For as long as I've been commenting on IMSC, that's the main thing I do. It comes from a place to deep dak self loathing that I cannot seem to shake. I;m not a writer, I know nothing about African-American life, and I have nothing better to do with my time besides being a white male criticizing African-American lives being depicted in programming. I'm going to watch "Jag" and "Blue Bloods." now.

Sorry to see it's over as I really enjoyed this show. Some commenters have said they felt it was "preachy", but I didn't. I liked all of the characters and enjoyed seeing the world and situations through each of their eyes. I thought the show did a great job of taking some very controversial subjects and presenting both "sides" of the arguement while still managing to actually be really funny.

@KC What this blurb doesn't tell you is that he was leaving the show. There were creative differences and he no longer wanted to be a part of the show. Stemmed from an episode the network refused to air due to the date.
With that said. I watched a couple of episodes it just wasn't funny for me and his delivery just seems so dry.

Contract renewals equal negotiating higher salaries. Same mediocre ratings plus paying all cast members more money. Cuts into their mediocre profits making it not viable anymore. happens to a lot of great shows.

This is very disappointing to me. I loved the show, loved the characters (David Alan Grier is amazing!!!)
I laughed at every single episode and couldn't wait to watch the next one. It will be missed!!!

Oh MANNNNNN. I really liked this show. It had chops. I really don't understand the decision making process on this one. The ratings were good. Writing good. Acting great. WTF TV Execs????

This show is intelligent and thought provoking. The writers did not shy away from uncomfortable topics and presented it with a sprinkle of humor. I am really going to miss it!!

Why are all African-American sitcoms written like "After School Specials"? Seriously.. it's only the "black" sitcoms that feel they ned to "teach" the viewers. If they would stop with that crap maybe there would be a long running, FUNYY, sitcom that centers around an African-American family (where the dad's not a rapist). Writers are WAY too caught up in their holier-than-thou storylines.

Maybe not everybody's cup of tea but I thought it did a good job of exploring some pretty tough topics and social issues. Probably be a good fit with Netflix or some other streaming service. Sorry to see it go.
