It is being reported that Netflix has cancelled Gypsy after just one season. The psychological thriller premiered on the streaming service earlier this summer for a 10-episode run, ultimately garnering a less enthusiastic response from critics than many other Netflix originals.

Gypsy starred Naomi Watts, playing lead in her first regular TV series role in 20 years, as a Manhattan-based therapist with a successful practice who lives a seemingly-picturesque life. But a growing obsession with the personal lives of her patients causes her to develop intimate and dangerous relationships with the people in their lives. As the borders of her professional life and personal fantasies become blurred, Jean's life becomes a tangled web of deception that turns her world upside down.

While early work had reportedly begun on a second season, it is not clear why the plug was pulled at this point in time. For Netflix to cancel a freshman series is not a common occurrence, though it appears to be a trend on a slight uptick, with both The Get Down and Girlboss being axed after their first seasons in recent months.
