The fantasy drama will not make the move to Paramount Network.
January 16, 2018
It is being reported that The Shannara Chronicles will not be returning for a third season. The moves comes just days ahead of the launch of Paramount Network, which the show's current network, Spike, is being rebranded to on Thursday.
The fantasy drama started out in 2016 on MTV, where it became the cable network's top-rated scripted original that year. The series made a move to Spike for Season 2, which aired last fall, but ratings were off considerably from what they were in Season 1. With Spike now rebranding to Paramount Network, the show obviously did not fit in with their programming strategy going forward.
Adapted from the best-selling Shannara series of novels by Terry Brooks, The Shannara Chronicles takes place thousands of years after the fall of mankind and civilization. With the Four Lands now in great danger, the fate of the world rests in the hands of an unlikely trio consisting of an Elven Princess, a human rover, and a half-human half-elf. Together they embark on a quest to prevent a demon army from destroying the Four Lands.

This show was garbage. Do yourselves a favor and read the books.
Good riddance.

Another case of idiot execs not knowing what's good.
Money hungry idiots. If it's not something stupid and cheap to produce then they don't want it.

This sucks, I really like this show. It was good fantasy, hard to see shows like it lately. I hope it gets picked up somewhere else, which would be the third time lol.

I loved this show but, something told me it wouldn't last. The premise was too plausible for some, I guess ... jm

Can't say I'm surprised. I love this show! I loved everything about it. I knew it was too good to be true. Oh well I'll find something else.

Very disappointed this show was cancelled. Loved the books, loved the show. Sick of reality tv...agree cw or freeform would have been a better choice.

*cough* Firefly *cough*
Being a fan of a cult fantasy show or a show based on a cult fantasy book is not an easy thing. We all have known that for a long time…
It still sucks.

Unreal...
A magnificently produced show about a beloved series of book, cut down in it's prime because it didn't get ratings - ratings it could have had if it were put in a more main-stream venue.
Originally MTV had it (presumably to garner the young-adult audience, but the ones that watch that network have been so brainwashed by "reality" shows, they couldn't have enjoyed it for what it is) then moved to Spike (a network that has been steadily declining in quality and viewership for a decade)
The CW would have been a better bet for a genre show of this caliber, or even Freeform.
Simply unreal...

I'm a bit disappointed that this show got cancelled. The second season lost some of its charm when the lead female character left the series. It then lost focus in the second season, and seemed in a hurry to get a lot of plot points over with. Maybe this was all dictated by the books, I never read them. Even so, it was still worth watching.
