Netflix announced today that On My Block has been picked up for a second season. The coming-of-age dramedy premiered last month with 10 half-hour episodes that have garnered favorable reviews from both critics and viewers.

Created by Lauren Iungerich, who also gave us MTV's now-concluded Awkward, On My Block follows four streetwise teens beginning high school in a tough South Central Los Angeles neighborhood. As they gear up for this next chapter of their lives, these lifelong friends need to have to have each others' backs as they face adversities such as the constant threat of gang violence.

The show has been lauded for its solid acting performances and storylines that deal with real and timely issues affecting today's inner-city youth. Today's renewal makes perfect sense for Netflix, as this type of original series adds nicely to the streaming service's lineup of binge-worthy originals.
