NBC has topped up the drama's freshman run.
October 18, 2018
NBC has reportedly ordered three additional episodes for the first season of Manifest, bringing its total up to 16. The freshman drama premiered last month and is four episodes into its run.
The hour-long series follows the passengers and crew of Montego Air Flight 828, which recently landed safely after being reported missing five years ago. To those aboard, though, it was just a typical flight with a bit of turbulence. With the returned passengers and crew back home, they now face a new reality with a second chance. But a deeper mystery starts to unfold as some of the returned realize they could be meant for something greater.
Through its first four weeks on the air, Manifest ranks as this season's most-watched and highest-rated new series. While today's three-episode top up might seem on the small side - and falls short of a typical full season order - the network's decision likely relates to storytelling reasons as the show is highly serialized.

This show will make season 2 but it will tank and never get a third season. Too much about questions that if they answer leaves the show with nothing, or a it becomes a different show. If they don't answer then it just becomes annoying and half written. The premise is a one off one season limited series idea. You ask questions then answer them soon enough.

**SPOILER ALERT re: LOST* Andrew I thought the same thing that they were alive the whole time on the island, had survived the plane crash but didn’t expect the final season where sideways was purgatory and they all came together in sideways purgatory after each had died on the island. Loved how they were all woken to their status in pergatory and went to heaven together, those that chose. Unless you are speaking of the other “false” storyline that they were dead the whole time on the island. In that case I too thought that’s what ending implied until I read what the creators said of the ending and realized I didn’t watch or pay attention to the ending as well as I thought.

This show is not even in the same ballpark as Lost which completely hooked viewers and became a watercooler show. While Lost certainly stayed on too long, it was terrific in the early seasons. Manifest is average at best.

I like it but it's a sci-fi-ish show that's different than most everything else and it's on NBC which means like Revolution, The Event, Timeless, Heroes, etc it will be cancelled after the 1st(maybe 2nd) season and we'll get another crime drama or medical drama which has been done to death.

The show will be renewed for a second season but it won’t be as solid as season 1. It will hold ratings enough for a season 3, but I predict it will can cancelled there after.

As a former watcher of every episode of Lost, I disagree with Manifest feeling cheap. I got so tired of Lost by the last two seasons as it felt like it was dragging on and on and on and honestly, I had predicted the ending after Season 2 was over. Lost kept trying to up its mysteries and got caught up in a whole bunch of unanswered plot holes. So far, Manifest for me is about on par with Lost in its first season. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into the same “What can we confuse the viewer with this week?”, like it did on Lost after a while....

Well, I watched 3 episodes and that was enough. It's an evening soap.. all the emotional stuff and HUGE plot holes... the FBI scours the plane and the luggage wearing hazmat suits... but they let the people go that very same day???? The police woman who vanished 5 years ago has her job back on day 3 of her return, really???? It's going to merely devolve into "filler" episodes and never answer any questions.
