The CW announced today that Legacies has been picked up for a second season. The rookie drama, which acts as a follow-up to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, premiered last fall and is currently eight episodes into its run. Ratings thus far have been modest, though reviews have been generally favorable.
Legacies focuses on a group of young adults including Hope Mikaelson, the 17-year-old 'tribrid' daughter of Klaus and Hayley, and Lizzie and Josie Saltzman, Alaric Saltzman's twin girls. These young vampires, werewolves, and witches are coming of age in unconventional ways - on the road to becoming the heroes or villains they are meant to be.

Legacies is a watered-down offshoot from The Originals, which was dark, hard-edged, adult oriented and had rich original characters. The Originals always kept you on the edge of your seat. Legacies is ok at best. It's characters are milk-toast in comparison, the stories are predictable and less satisfying than the Originals. This would make sense if you were a fan of The Originals. Vampire Diaries was pretty good, The Originals even better but Legacies falls short from its predecessors. I want to like Legacies but I'm on the fence as to whether I'll stick around for season two. It definitely has potential.

I never watched the Originals and only watched the very early eps of Vampire Diaries, but I love Legacies! I'm sure there are a few things I miss, but since I don't know what they are, it obviously isn't a problem. Don't let the 1st 2 series affect your decision on whether to watch this show. It is good enough to stand alone.
