The streaming series will continue in 2020.

CBS announced today that Star Trek: Discovery has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes in the midst of the sci-fi drama's sophomore run, which has continued to garner critical praise as a worthy addition to the storied franchise on which it is based.
The big-budget production seems to have found its footing after a bit of a rocky beginning. First announced in 2015, it took two years for the series to make its much-anticipated debut in late 2017 due to multiple delays as well as a showrunner change during that time. While things are running smoother now, today's announcement also included news that a second showrunner is being added for Season 3. Executive Producer Michelle Paradise is joining Alex Kurtzman at the helm going forward.
Taking place 10 years before the events of the original Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery follows a brand new crew on a new ship as they take on missions to discover new worlds and lifeforms during the Federation-Klingon war.
Look for Season 3 to premiere sometime in 2020.

Mike d - I assume you are in the US??
Please bear in mind that it's not just the US that gets to see this show (there's more than one country in the world) - in the vast majority of cases Netflix is the home of Star Trek Discovery (i.e. all of Europe incl. the UK)

This show is not on netflix and this jim guy cancelled netflix over it? Who cancels a network over one show, much less the wrong network?

The Orville should stand on its own and not try to be Star Trek. It is getting preachy, I agree. They should bring more of the humor back (Seth M. said he intentionally took out some of the humor which I think was a mistake). Haven't watched Discovery yet...saw some clips that made the dialogue seem a bit juvenile, but I do intend on watching it on some point, probably just buy the DVD, watch it, and then re-sell it.

The orville is brilliant Matt , the moclans the intolerant antiwomen culture is a good representation of the islamic states of the world. In those cultures only men are worth anything and often men have sex with other men because women are seen as dirty. who would dare do such a thing? the orville that's who!. anyways. this show is great imo. much better than the flawed and badly written 'enterprise' of the early zeroes'.

I actually love both series! However, the Orville was much funnier last season.

I can't get into this series. No more prequels, I'd like something after next gen. Probably why I am really enjoying the Orville... but I detest being preached at and the orville is pushing it. Although what show isn't preachy these days.

I actually really like this show. There are some things I'd prefer they change -- that bearded klingon/guy should just die already. That mouth-breather adds nothing. And there are some gaping plot holes in season 2. But it's entertaining, unpredictable, and engaging. I detest The Orville. That show is absolutely horrible and should be disposed of immediately. For my viewing time, STD has FAR more humor in it than the Orville does. I'm NOT a "political" person and don't take a hard stance in any direction... I will say that the stories in STD are not openly "politically motivated". Unlike Orville where each and every episode CLEARLY has a political agenda they want to push. Watching The Orville is nothing short of listening to McFarlaine preaching from his pulpit. There's really no comparison, unless you feel a dog's fecal matter compares to a gourmet meal.

jim - you actually cancelled your Netflix subscription because of this show....or you say you did just like everybody else that doesn't like just one show? So many good shows on Netflix, it's cutting your nose off in spite of your face wouldn't you say?
I loved TNG, DS9 and Voyager. I even quite liked Enterprise....Discovery was never going to be a 90s era Star Trek show - it needed to evolve in order to gain new viewership. I personally really enjoy it and I'm keeping an open mind as to what they are going to do with the spore drive to bring things back in line with canon.
The spin-off show about Section 31 is looking like it may be quite interesting and the direction they're taking the new Picard show sounds good too. Just keep an open mind - it's not going to go back to a mainly dialogue show - younger generations have a much shorter attention span, so they need more action to keep them interested.
