NBC announced today that Blindspot will be returning for a fifth and final season. The news should be a bit of a relief to fans who noticed that the network recently pulled the drama from its schedule for May sweeps - a key period of time for viewing data measurement.

The series premiered in 2015 with a strong debut outing that quickly earned it a Season 2 pickup. Its momentum slowed during its sophomore run, however, and while it was renewed, the network moved the show to Friday nights, where it has been airing since.

While longtime fans will no doubt be disappointed that the show is ending, the advanced notice will ensure that creators are given ample opportunity to craft a proper ending to the story.

Created by Martin Gero, Blindspot follows a mysterious woman who is discovered in Times Square, naked and covered in tattoos. Brought to the FBI with no memory of who she is or where she came from, the realization that her tattoos are all linked to crimes to be solved sets in motion an international plot with far-reaching implications.
