The sci-fi dramedy will continue in 2019-2020.

Fox announced today that The Orville has been picked up for a third season. Created by Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane, the hour-long space dramedy continued to have a solid presence during its sophomore run, both creatively and ratings-wise. Known for its mix of thought-provoking sci-fi story lines and witty humour, the series is amassing quite the loyal fanbase.
Taking inspiration from Star Trek, The Orville takes place 400 years in the future, when Earth is just a small part of an advanced and mostly-peaceful Planetary Union. The U.S.S. Orville is a mid-level exploratory vessel with a human and alien crew led by rookie officer Ed Mercer, who is played by MacFarlane. Determined to prove his worth despite his First Officer being his ex-wife, Ed leads his crew as they face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar workplace problems.
Look for Season 3 of The Orville during the 2019-2020 season.

So glad this got renewed ! However - I did find a few of the episodes (really only one or two) slightly underwhelming - would love more off world adventures and maybe less Orville based stories!!! Will keep watching though.. great take on a scifi series!! love the sensitive handling of same sex species (Klyden really is a dick!!!) - loved the season finale!! can't wait to see where they go with it next!!!

The writing has gotten better in season 2 in balancing between comedy and serious action. The time capsule episode in which Bortus and Klyden were smoking hundreds of cigarettes daily, then lying and hiding their smokes was hilarious.

Relieved to see this has gotten renewed! FOX has an awful track record when it comes to cancelling shows that have so much promise; aka Firefly, Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and most recently The Gifted. Glad to hear that at least this one has escaped the chopping-block for one more season!

Very glad to see this confirmed. Season 2 had some fantastic episodes such as the two Identity episodes and the final two.
