CBS has ordered a shortened final run.
May 15, 2019
CBS announced today that Madam Secretary will be coming to an end after its upcoming sixth season. The news comes a week after the veteran political drama was picked up for the 2019-2020 season.
The network has ordered 10 episodes for the show's final run, which is by far its shortest to-date. The advanced notice beats an abrupt cancellation, and gives showrunners the chance to prepare a suitable end to the story.
The political drama, which stars Téa Leoni as the Secretary of State, has seen its ratings decline considerably the past few years but has remained a Sunday night staple nevertheless. The series surpassed the 100-episode milestone earlier this season.
Look for the sixth and final season of Madam Secretary to premiere this fall as part of the 2019-2020 television season.

I actually thought they would keep this going and change the name to Madam President

The acting was fantastic, the story lines great and above all else gave us a peak into the world of politics that normally sucks in the real world. It will be greatly missed!

To all who are complaining about this show, why does it have to be a political tool that liberals are using...blah blah blah! I realize it's a political show but why can't you just turn yourself off for 60 minutes and enjoy what's in front of you? Not everything needs to be a tool for you to push your political views onto others.

Have to agree the first 3 to 4 seasons were very good, the last one was so over the top on the Climate Change storyline, it was hard to watch.
If it was trying to send a message about the subject it failed, as if it had been one or maybe 2 episode's then it may have had more of an effect.
But it spanning most of the season the storyline was getting way to much.

Glad it is ending. I will probably watch the end. I was going to stop watching when every show was about climate change. I watched taped and was finding myself fast forwarding much of the show.

I recently stopped watching this show. It became a political tool for liberals. The last 2 seasons or so, it hasn't met a liberal agenda it wouldn't try to make a show about. Unfortunately like most liberal ventures, the show is going down in flames. What was once a great show turn into a pile of rubble. But then is not what liberals do best, destroy something that was once great.

I'm devastated by this cancellation, but at least they are giving it a chance to wrap up on their own terms.
Politics aside, I loved the cast and writing. The marriage between Elizabeth and Henry, as well as their parenting, was a pleasure to watch. Socioeconmics and jobs aside, they actually reminded me a little of my own parents!
Political shows have an inherent, logical conclusion due to term limits, but I will still greatly miss this show. That said, I wasn't looking forward to Elizabeth's bid for the presidency so maybe this is a good thing after all.

Now who will relentlessly push the Global Warming agenda???
Went from entertaining to preachy and became unwatchable.

The show was becoming unbearably preachy and biased. I was debating giving up on it because of this so I am not really surprised by the decision to end it. I agree it was a better show in the early seasons
