No Season 2 for the mid-season comedy.
May 30, 2019
It is being reported that NBC has cancelled Abby's after just one season. The sad news comes with three episodes remaining in its run - tonight's back-to-back airings and the now-series finale on June 13.
The comedy premiered in March as a mid-season entry, promoted as the first sitcom to ever be filmed live in front of an outdoor audience. While its critical reception leaned positive, the show failed to garner a healthy number of viewers on Thursday nights.
Abby's followed the staff and guests of an unlicensed, makeshift establishment that locals in a San Diego neighborhood frequent. The ex-military owner, Abby, gets pushback from her new landlord over her business, but he warms to the idea as long as some changes are made.

I was critical of this show, but tonight, the two episodes really jelled. I thought the show was "getting much better." I think it had a chance if they had somehow work-shopped it better EARLY ON. Tonight we decided to continue to watch... then I read it is cancelled. Oh well. Rosie's timing and acting really improved a lot. I thought the whole "filmed outdoors" and 4th wall breaking each commercial break just kept reminding me it is a 'show.' It took me out of the plot (which was kinda thin to begin).

This show was painful to watch and I am not surprised that it got canceled. I tried but the lead was unlikeable and the rest of the cast unbelievable. Not sure how this got on the air.

.. coming next month.. "Jimmy's" -- a story about a night owl that likes to set up mock-trials for his neighbors at night in his back yard with his friends "Christy" which tries to defend the neighbors and "Stan" who always feels they are judging unfairly. Throw in the large, bald, overprotective female neighbor, Debbie, who everyone calls "Cow" who act to keep the peace between everyone... it's a laugh riot!!.. and no it's NOT "Night Court".

.. and it was CLEARLY a "how do we remake 'Cheers' without it being in an actual bar" attempt.

It writing was okay... problem was the overall premise... she builds a full bar in her back yard and then you discover she's RENTING the house, is running electrical off of a mass of octopus-like, strung together, surge protectors.. and yeah.. the police never show... power company never suspects anything... the abundant lights from the back yard never cause anyone to raise an eyebrow. ANY neighborhood in America would have the local 80year-olds calling the police (because they don't have much else to do).
