No Season 2 for the counterintelligence thriller.
May 30, 2019
It is being reported that The Enemy Within has been cancelled after its first season. The thriller premiered in February for a 13-episode run that concluded with its now-series finale on May 20.
The show got off to a decent start in the ratings over its first few episodes, but viewers seemed to lose interest as the weeks wore on. Reception from critics was generally mixed, with no real glowing praise to garner additional buzz.
The Enemy Within followed brilliant former CIA operative Erica Shepherd, who became known as the most notorious traitor in American history after betraying her country. While serving a life sentence in a Supermax prison, Erica is contacted by FBI Agent Will Keaton, who has reluctantly turned to her for help in tracking down a dangerous criminal.

The one person who suggested that shows get more than one season also said: or else they be given an ending episode if they need one. Not exactly crazy. Not exactly entitled. I bet everyone of us, at least once, thought a show we liked that got cancelled wasn’t given a proper chance. I’ll bet everyone of us has had many shows pulled from us right in the middle of a plot. Blaze is an idiot for his or her (isn’t Blaze a dog?) “utterly weird” slam.
Does he not know that many people do not get cable (or use an antennae) but stream and watch past series for a good price. I get cable and do not stream but the strategy of waiting until shows with ongoing plots complete before watching them is a smart strategy. I don’t do it but I do not criticize those who do. Blaze is an idiot.
I would think he’s just a kid, but most here are older and most kids don’t watch tv.
It’s not only kids that don’t know what’s going one. Some only get their news from tv. Some never read anything. Except for betting on horse races, or stock, or following sports, anything that is worth reading the minute it comes out, is worth reading later, often a lot later. The stuff that is fleeting is unimportant. If you can still only watch a sporting event live or it doesn’t feel right, - unless you already know the score, what’s not right is your brain

1) Put me down in the "disappointed it was cancelled, but in no way surprised" column. The show started strong as an action-thriller with a tense "Who can you trust?" paranoid vibe. Pretty much the same time they stopped showing the opening text of "thousands of spies among us-blah-blah", the show became murky and increasingly dull. (eg. We already knew Erica's backstory, but they wasted an entire flashback episode telling us again)
2) The are so many strange comments and complaints. "One season isn't a fair test". "I don't watch a show until a full season is in the can." My mind boggles at how utterly weird their minds are.

Yeah people want to watch mindless entertainment where you don’t have to use any brain power like all this reality crap! Cut almost every reality show and keep shows like this one! This was an excellent show and so deserved a Season 2 and had the perfect cast! Shame on you America for not watching this show!

Sad to hear. Loved the show! Never missed an episode. Definitely deserved a second season. Shepherd was awesome! Very calculating. Not your typical procedural show. Good luck to the cast!

I was hopeful it would get renewed but I'm not really surprised it didn't.

I have to amend something in what I just wrote. Burden of Truth was just renewed for season 3, which happened before any of season 2 has aired. So much for ratings being the only factor to consider. Chew on that Chester.

@Chester your reality is warped - maybe there is some water in there? Shake it out. Venting about TV shows being cancelled is possibly the most common practice here and you have a problem with it. I did not even say I didn’t think The Enemy Within should have been cancelled - I made that clear. My crime of “entitlement” was in respecting those who felt it wasn’t given a chance. I saw no argument that it had ratings that were significantly lower than any other show that has been renewed in the last several years - which would been your fair argument if it was true and you had done the research. You think maybe it’s you with the problem, just maybe?

@Steve S.. thanks for showing exactly what the air of entitlement is. Wonderful example you posted. Please YOU pay for a second season, I'm certain they'd be happy to air it.
