Word is out that Netflix has cancelled Tuca & Bertie after just one season. The sad news comes less than three months after the animated comedy's 10-episode freshman release. Creator Lisa Hanawalt took to Twitter this afternoon to express her thanks to those involved with the show and hope that she can find a new home for it.

The decision to cancel the series appears to indicate that it failed to find a sizeable audience, which can be a challenge with the amount of original content offered on the streaming service. Critically, the show was very well-received, holding a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and making some best-of-the-year lists.

The series follows a self-confident and free-spirited toucan named Tuca and her best friend and roommate, a self-doubting song thrush named Bertie. When Bertie gets closer with her live-in boyfriend, Tuca must move into her own place - which is still in the same building. Despite their new living arrangement, they still help guide each other through the ups and downs of life as a bird.
