The veteran drama ends after seven seasons.
February 4, 2020
Showtime announced today that Ray Donovan has completed its run and will not return for Season 8. The news comes two weeks after the long-running drama's Season 7 finale on January 19, which now serves as its series ender.
The news was somewhat unexpected given the show's continued solid performance, but at last month's TCA, Gary Levine, the cable network's co-president of Entertainment, commented that he thought it was nearing the end of its run. Many interpreted that as a signal that a final eighth season would be ordered, but obviously that was not the case.
Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber as the titular character, who does the dirty work for some of Los Angeles' most-powerful figures. As their go-to guy, he makes the problems of the city's elite celebrities, athletes, and businessmen disappear.

Ray Donovan. Great Show! But if you couldn't tell as the seasons progressed the story was running out. They should have did one more season after the wife died to end the whole thing. If you couldn't see the progression they were painting themselves in a corner.

Ditto here. Thanks Nancy and Cheri, for contact info. After the finale of Homeland, I'm out of Showtime as well. Showtime seems to be in a original program (save, Billions) dessert with the loss of Shameless. Shameless at least gets the dignity of a sendoff. So disappointed.

All these years I devote to this program and you don’t give us an ending!

Haven't seen this season yet, I hope they don't leave on a cliffhanger. I understand every show has to end sometime but I probably won't need a showtime subscription after Shameless final season airs, no other shows besides Billions and I don't need a yearly subscription for that.

You’re welcome Cheri! I also told him after Homeland’s finale airs I will be canceling Showtime. I really hope our voices are heard!

Thanks Nancy for posting the email address!! I sent Gary the following:
Not sure what You & the Execs were thinking here Gary…. At the very least, give your viewers a final season with some closure. Instead you abandoned our hearts. I was so looking forward to how they were going to wrap up the amazing Mickey Donovan storyline.
With Homeland ending in a few months, and with so many other streaming services available, many of your viewer are going to cancel their Showtime subscriptions.
Pretty stupid decision if you would like my humble opinion. Apple TV, here I come!!!!

Darmay- I sent an email to Gary Levine, who was VP of original programming but was just promoted to co-president last month. His email address is Gary.levine@showtime.net. I read that he had said he only thought this would run 6 or 7 seasons, so if that was the case he should’ve let the writers know before season 7 was written.

Well, I guess all good things come to an end. Sorry to see this go, it's been a consistently good ride! I do wish they had offered a series finale, and not left so much hanging. More networks are cancelling series, but bringing them back for a partial final season (Supernatural, etc.) or at least a two-hour series finale (Timeless). Kinda surprised that Showtime would just drop a series after 7 seasons without any kind of ending; seems like kind of a slap in the face to all us viewers who have stuck with it for all that time.
