The veteran drama will end its run in April.
March 3, 2020
Word is out this morning that The Magicians will be coming to an end after its current fifth season. The sad news comes with five episodes remaining in the drama's run, with its finale on April 1 now set to act as its series ender.
The show was a solid performer for the cable network during its time on the air. Over the course of 60+ episodes it has garnered generally-favorable reviews from both critics and audiences, while pulling in decent ratings among key demographics.
Adapted from the Lev Grossman novel trilogy of the same name, The Magicians follows a graduate student who enrolls at a magical college only to discover that the fantasy world from popular children's books is actually based in truth and poses a danger to his world.

Don't worry, next year they'll release "Prestidigitation" which will follow Harry Potter in his senior years... much like this show followed Harry Potter in young adulthood. I hope all you YA literature lovers are looking forward to that.

Unfortunately, I’m not at all surprised by the cancellation, considering what happen in the last episode of Season 4

I dreaded this would happen from the declining numbers this season. I always wish that the network would provide the writers ample enough time to wrap things up or give them a final season.
I really wish they stuck closer to the books but I realise it might not have adapted well to TV.

@DWB609 That has to be the dumbest comment that's ever been posted. With that logic then you must not watch anything but movies. Since EVERYTHING eventually gets cancelled.
Anyway...I think the show did fairly well. It started when a few other SYFY shows I was watching had ended. I think it did pretty well for themselves had 5 decent seasons, and there's at least 2 or 3 of them that should be able to translate into better success if that's what they are looking for. Overall decent show and enjoyed watching.

@DWB609 You didnt know anything, a show will either get cancelled/ended or rewned there is only 2 possible outcomes. Since season 3 you have been wrong and because it has now been cancelled you come out of the woodwork to say 'See I told you so'. It is akin to calling heads or tails. You were wrong, it lasted longer than you said, no matter what you say you can't change the fact you were wrong, deal with it, all shows will end evenutally.

@Tina and others who agree I didn't even watch it because I knew it would eventually get cancelled.
