NBC has reportedly cut the episode order for freshman series Chase to 18 episodes, down from its expected 22. The Jerry Bruckheimer action-drama has struggled in the ratings during its first season, with its most recent episode being watched by only 6 million viewers and earning a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating.

Chase is currently on the schedule for a midseason run beginning in the new year on January 12, which will see it move from Mondays at 10:00pm to Wednesdays at 9:00pm.

With this cut to its episode count, and the fact that its new 2011 timeslot pits it up against juggernaut American Idol, the writing is on the wall for Chase's cancellation after this season ends.
