ABC has picked up the comedy for a second season to debut in 2012.
July 11, 2011
ABC Family announced today that freshman comedy Melissa & Joey has been renewed for a second season. The series premiered last August and is still currently airing new Season 1 episodes due to an eight month break it took at its midway point.
Melissa & Joey has been considered a success thus far, debuting as the Number 1 comedy ever on the network in total viewers and key demographics. The show's first season is set to wrap up in the Fall, with Season 2 targeted for sometime in 2012.

I thought this show was going to be flaky and poorly written. Surprisingly though, I am looking forward to the next season. It is funny and whitty and the characters are very likable! It never fails to put a smile on my face. Can't wait til its back on!

"Melissa & Joey" is certainly good enough to be on ABC-TV proper, the type of show that would have formerly fit nicely in ABC's "TGIF" format.
I also wish there were more of the multi-cam sitcoms on the broadcast networks, instead of the majoirity that follow "The Office"/:Modern Family" method of filming.
Actually, would be nice to see a multi-cam sitcom shot on videotape, for that "live look," similar to how many sitcoms ("All In The Family," "Barney Miller," "The Golden Girls," "Home Improvement," "The Nanny,") in the 1970s through '90s were recorded.
The look of an originally shot-on-videotape program looks like a live play happening in one's TV set, while filmed programs appear more artificial, may become faded and/or grainy with the passage of time.
But it's just good to see scripted, episodic television making a comeback in general, and sitcoms specifically. Most people get enough of so-called "reality" from reality, want to be entertained and offered a little escape when watching TV.
Now, if only we could see a revival of the variety show ("The Ed Sullivan Show," "The Hollywood Palace," "Shindig!," "Hullabaloo") format, and of the sketch-comedy shows ("The Red Skelton Show," "The Carol Burnett Show," "The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour"). "SNL" is about the only program left that resembles either of those formats.

I enjoy watching Melissa and Joey. It is funny and definitely a show that I can watch with my 13 and 10 year old. I do not have to worry about muting it because of the language or changing the channel because of a scene that is not appropriate for young girls. Hope to watch it for many more seasons.

I love Melissa and Joey! The two characters are perfect for this show, I hope to see it going for many season to come! I also love the puns that are toward the former show 'Who's the Boss!'

Melissa and Joey is a success in my eyes. My husband and I laugh together everytime an episode is on. Your telling real situations and conquering how parents or guardians of kids have to learn to be the ones to guide instead of being a friend. I hope to see Melissa and Joey together. Friendship first is a keeper to a great marriage. I love this show. To the whole cast, please keep enjoying your job, because we enjoy the success of the show.
