The drama has received one final renewal that marks an end to the series.
August 14, 2011
AMC has renewed Breaking Bad for a final 16 episodes to conclude the series. What is unknown at this time is if the extended episode order will air as one season or two. A typical season of the show has been 13 episodes.
"We've watched ‘Breaking Bad’ grow over the years with viewers, as championed by the unwavering support of critics and the well deserved accolades Vince and his talented actors have received. We’re looking forward to seeing Vince’s masterful storytelling come fully to fruition over the course of the series’ final episodes," said Zack Van Amburg, President, programming for Sony Pictures Television in a press release.
On the air since 2008, Breaking Bad has had a successful run on AMC, garnering widespread critical praise in categories such as writing, acting, and cinematography. The show has been awarded six Emmys, including three consecutive nods for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for star Bryan Cranston.
Production on the final episodes will start in early 2012, but a premiere date for the next season has not yet been announced.

I absolutely love Breaking Bad. It has to be the best show I have--and will have--ever seen in my lifetime. At the same time, I am glad they are pulling the plug after one more season. I really think they would rather end on a high than drag the show out until it is old, stale, and out of ideas (Prison Break or 24 anyone?). I'd rather see a short, well-written story than a long, drawn-out, story that started good and winded up $h!t.

Are u kidding me. Why O why do the powers that be have to mess with this. Why is it EVERYTIME a really good series w/great writing and acting and following gets taken off. What so it can be replaced with some stupid reality show???? DUMB DUMB STUPID IDEA AMC! Please please reconsider this....it has such a following.

I don't understand ending such a good show on purpose. Why would you mess with success? I love this show, it's a mini-movie. AMC should really consider throwing away a great show that has a huge following...only to replace it with...who knows?! Sounds risky, stupid, and it doesn't make any sense. Guess TV execs have all the answers...

Stupid, stupid move. Few shows on TV can be considered art, and I'm saddened that this one has become another victim of myopic network-suits. AMC, you're crashing and burning. Fast.

Breaking Bad is the very best TV Drams I have ever seen, including The Wire, Soprano's etc. My Ex is a commissioning editor for BBC TV over here so I know a thing or two. Thank you and I will miss it, what's next in the pipeline?
