Production has been shut down on the struggling new cop drama.
November 16, 2011
NBC has finally pulled the plug on its low-rated freshman drama Prime Suspect. The series has struggled to find an audience since premiering in September, and after it was left off the network's midseason schedule earlier this week, the writing was on the wall. Word is now that production has now been shut down completely.
NBC did its best to boost Prime Suspect's viewership, airing a large amount of promo spots for the show and even airing repeats in the prime time slot of cancelled series The Playboy Club. Ratings, however, did not improve.
It is being reported that all 13 episodes that were produced will air, although it is not known if NBC will keep the show in its current Thursday night time slot. Six new episodes remain in Prime Suspect's first and final season.

I just watched this series during the pandemic and cannot imagine why it was canceled. The acting, the chemistry between the actors, and the writing were spot on. It is always baffling to understand which shows make it and which don't.

I LOVED this TV show. I don't understand why it would have low ratings. Everyone in my family watched it. I DVR'd every single episode, so I would never miss one. PLEASE bring back this TV Series.

Incredible that this show was cancelled when you look at the crap in the rest of NBC's prime time. This show could easily have been a successful replacement for "Law and Order SVU" which has become tired. My hope is that an enlightened cable station will pick it up, or even CBS or Fox that have good scheduled shows. Something is definitely off with NBC's judgement.

One of the best network shows the past 10 plus years. Captured the reality of being a NYPD detective (less the profanity and censorship of network TV) the same way Rescue Me portrayed on the job and firehouse life in the FDNY. Cannot believe NBC would cancel such an engaging, dramatic, hilarious and sarcastic show that showed the struggles and overwhelming humanity and empathy for the victims of crime and the impact it has on the lives of police officers. If NBC will not give the show time to capture an audience (remember they almost cancelled Seinfeld the first season) then show it on cable like they did with Southland and watch it become a hit series. Maria Bello is amazing and the supporting cast is exceptional. We are so feed up with network shows with their inane "story lines" and lame humor thankfully Cable TV offers an alternative to their banal and pitiful shows. NBC executives continue to exhibit poor judgement while pandering to the brain dead masses of TV viewers.

this was a great show, Maria Bello rocked. it had no chance on such a short leash. It was so much more real and gritty than unforgotton, send it to cable, its too good to kill

Prime Suspect's had a great combination of good acting (Maria B. is FAB), good writing and a fresh take on a crime/cop drama. NBC...really? You should give this show a second look! You owe it your viewers, after scaring us with that horrid Chelsea crap. Seriously...this never would have happened in the carefree days of MUST SEE TV Thursdays.
Bring PRIME SUSPECT's BACK.

That show was really great. It amazes me that a show with an actual storyline can't stand up against reality tv and shows about morons. Sad.
