Production has been shut down on the struggling new cop drama.
November 16, 2011
NBC has finally pulled the plug on its low-rated freshman drama Prime Suspect. The series has struggled to find an audience since premiering in September, and after it was left off the network's midseason schedule earlier this week, the writing was on the wall. Word is now that production has now been shut down completely.
NBC did its best to boost Prime Suspect's viewership, airing a large amount of promo spots for the show and even airing repeats in the prime time slot of cancelled series The Playboy Club. Ratings, however, did not improve.
It is being reported that all 13 episodes that were produced will air, although it is not known if NBC will keep the show in its current Thursday night time slot. Six new episodes remain in Prime Suspect's first and final season.

As long as people keeps watching stupids "reality shows", this is gonna happen all the time. I used to watch In Plain Sight, they cancelled. Now a good show, thats shows the reality we lived on the streets, its been cancelled too. Sucks.

As long as idiots watch the garbage they put out, the good shows with intelligence and actual stories will always fail. It happens time and time again, and will continue to happen. It is cheaper to produce "reality" based talent-less crap than it is to produce an actual scripted well-acted, intelligent drama.

The name of the game nowadays is "How much money can we make". Networks don't care about anything but the almighty dollar. And if they don't make it fast enough, then they'll "cut" whatever is keeping them from achieving it... no matter how many viewers like it.

So annoyed that yet another "thinking person's" show has been cancelled while the plethora of mind numbing reality shows continue to thrive. Ugh.

NBC owns USA and USA has the best shows on TV. I wish I knew what TV people expected nowadays from a show. If a show isn't pulling in 8-9 million viewers on NBC then the show is going down. I think it is just the culture we live in. Everyone is too busy and they are not going to follow a tv show that they feel like they have to tune in each week.

I really loved the show Prime Suspect. There is not much on tv anymore that I enjoy watching. It seems I really get into watching a show I love and it always gets pulled. All there is are the reality shows that I really hate! I am really sorry to see one of my favorite shows gone. Really loved Maria Bello and cast.

NBC needs to have more patience with shows--USA, TNT, LIFETIME, are kicking your butts because after 6-10shows they don't give up. Bottom line on profit is one thing getting a following does not happen overnight. Think about the lack of top 50 shows you have this could be the biggest reason I see consistently in your behavior.
