The new drama will return for a second season.
March 4, 2013
FOX announced today that it has renewed freshman series The Following for Season 2. The Kevin Bacon-led thriller has been a mid-season success for the network, already becoming this season's #2 broadcast drama in Live+7 ratings after its first six episodes. The show's solid ratings, combined with praise from critics and audiences alike, make it easy to see why FOX was quick to pick the series up for a second season.
Nine episodes remain in the first season of The Following. The number of episodes ordered for the show's next season have not been specified.
UPDATE: Season 2 of The Following premieres on Sunday, January 19, 2014 after the NFC Championship game.

It is great to see James Purefoy getting the attention as an actor he justly deserves. It's been hit and miss with his career and he is so talented. Kevin has done nicely in Television. Something he even admitted he was keen of at first.

Great show I am so glad it is doing well. I am really happy to get to see more of James Purefoy, who I became interested in when I saw him in "George and the Dragon". I watched the movie and kept thinking that I've seen him before and found he had been in "A Knights Tale". Also glad to see Kevin Bacon again, who never disappoints me. They had better keep this one going so I don't get all caught up in it, like I am, just to have it cancelled and I'm left hanging like ABC does.

While I like the show (I'm a couple episodes behind), I am frustrated how Kevin Bacon's character is a super-genius, while the rest of the FBI is morons. I really disliked the episode where they storm the farmhouse Joey was at, the stupidity & ineptitude the good-guys show is absurd. No real perimeter set, just a couple guys come in, assassinate whoever's around, storm the house & take out the random two guys that storm the front door, and then the two schlubs in the house somehow escape...? And what was with Joey initially running away from the house, then being like, "oh, I guess I should go back with them now cause she says so". Some good story writing, and some REALLY BAD.

while i have enjoyed the show, i do feel it is a complete ripoff of wire in the blood........Now that show was intense!
My fear is that like most shows from across the pond they very rarely get beyond season 1 with a half way decent storyline. Its almost like when they sell the concept to the studios the story they have to tell plays out in season 1 leaving them scracthing for ideas for season 2 and beyond......I hope i'm wrong!
