The drama ends after one season.
August 7, 2014
ABC announced today that summer series Black Box has been cancelled after one season. The mental illness drama aired 13 episodes between April and July but struggled to draw significant viewership over the course of its run. Its premiere episode garnered a healthy 1.5 in the adults 18-49 demographic, but numbers fell to less than half that by the time its finale aired.

OMG... I'm really upset about this cancellation. I've been following these comments and just seeing people learning and understanding more about mental illness, no matter which form it may be, is a HUGE plus for both the sufferers and those who have suffers in their lives. UNDERSTANDING of the illness is such a huge part of helping the illness to stay controlled too. This really SUCKS that all of you who watched and dedicated yourself to WANTING to learn more can't go further via this show. I say THANK YOU for your time though. I am a 17 years Veteran of BiPolar+, luckily in the high functioning catagory, but I still lost my Corporate Administrative job in CA because of it. When medicated you aren't allowed to work. My life was literally ripped away with a single diagnosis. I went through about a year of figuring out who the NEW me is, and I have dedicated myself to learning more and chairing groups for people who are suffers and their families who would like to talk and learn from each other. Too many people hide and feel alone, so I thought in time this show would help others see that talking is healthy and having like-minded friends is a help when you are having a down day. Now, BUB where do you see ANY similarity in any of the shows you listed to Black Box that is based in a hospital helping ill people??? You either have your shows mixed up, OR you are a closet sufferer, or you know someone ill and it scares the crap outta you, yet you are too selfish to seek the understanding that you need... and would probably find in this show. I am disappointed, but HOPEFULLY another channel will pick it up. TTFN <3

This show was bizarre when you watch the first episode, however if you gave it a chance and continued watching you would have loved it. A great insight to the brain, mental illness and especially bi-polar. Bub you must have a brain tumor if you keep stating and believing this is a COP show!! I have no idea wtf you are even talking about. You are so convinced that you show signs of delusion and irrationality thus concluding your hallucinations and actions would suggest a brain tumor or mental disorder.

I thought the first episode was really bizarre but kept watching it. It's really intense and I grew to Love the show. Took a bit to get to know the characters but couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. Brought great awareness to Bi-Polar and mental illnesses and how much help people with these diagnosis need. I am sad the show is being cancelled. I wish a Cable network channel would pick it up.

Watched the first episode and new it would be cancelled, it was just rubbish. The idea behind it was a good one, but the way it was made was shocking.

It WAS a cop show.. solving mysteries tracking down bad guys. Just because no one plays an actual police office, that does NOT make it not a cop show. It always the same formula -- attractive woman and a guy, solving crimes or mysteries. The list of these type of formula shows goes on and on - All the NCIS shows, all the CSI shows, All the Law & order shows, Castle, Alcatraz, Black Box, The Closer, Murder She Wrote, Matlock, Blue Bloods, and on and on and on. If you don't realize how dumb the programmers think you are by showing the same thing year after year, then you are EXACTLY the moronic viewer they are targeting.

I really enjoyed this show a great deal. I looked forward to its airing and was intrigued my the season (series) finale. I hate when there is no resolution to such a huge cliffhanger. I agree that there is WAY too much "reality" (more like scripted reality) shows on television. We need more shows witb nagging stories. *SIGH*

Bummer. Guess if it's not a Scandal show, it's gonna get canceled. Too bad they didn't give it another shot.

Of course they leave you hanging with no conclusion. I am not starting anymore new shows cuz they just cancel them. And on ABC if its not a bachelor, bachelorette, in or out of paradise the show won't last past the first season. U really need some more reality shows ABC!!! Also Bub watch a show b4 u make a stupid comment as in "same formulaic cop show"!

This show was a breath of fresh viewing. My son is bi-polar and this show gave me insights into the illness that my son had a hard time explaining. ABC is becoming like the other networks - cancel shows faster than giving it a chance. I find I am watching more cable shows as they allow a show to hang around long enough and gather viewers.
