FX has cancelled The Bastard Executioner after one season. Showrunner Kurt Sutter announced the news this morning by placing ads in the Hollywood trades, thanking the cast and crew after confirming that the series would not return for a second season.
Sutter cited a lukewarm reception from viewers as the reason for the show ending. Its premiere episode drew moderate ratings, but its numbers failed to see growth over the course of its 10-episode run.

I liked this, but I'd still say it was more "interesting" than "compelling". The story was overall pretty slow and if you missed the first couple episodes there'd be no reason to try and catch up. While well-written, it wasn't written well for weekly commercial television.

First episode was great but then it spiraled. Like a NASCAR race..."go in a circle, go in a circle, advertise, advertise...go in a circle" -Peter Griffin, Family Guy

Frankly, Sutter was the one who made the call, not FX. He has too much respect for his fans to put out a work he didn't feel they reciprocated well and wanted to go out on his note.
I loved this show. His writing was brilliant, the actors were amazing. The fans just couldn't displace their love from SOA from this show and that was the death here. This show wasn't meant to be like SOA, Sutter has ideas for shows like that but this one wasn't one and because the fans couldn't understand that, they let this show die. Sutter expressed himself that was different from The Shield and SOA but fans couldn't appreciate it.

Not sorry to see this one go. I gave up on this rubbish after a few episodes. It's main features were bad acting, and a boring plot.

Really? You're seriously cancelling this??? What do people watch anymore--the Mysteries of Laura???? This show was fantastic--loves Lee Jones and loved Katey Sagal. What a mistake.
