The drama will not return for Season 4.
September 7, 2016
Ahead of tonight's season finale, FX has announced that Tyrant will not be returning, cancelling the summer drama after three seasons on the air.
“It’s very difficult to find common ground with other people whose stories we do not know or understand,” said FX CEO John Landgraf in a released statement. “The creators of Tyrant have done their utmost over three seasons to tell American audiences a tiny fraction of the many gripping, human stories coursing through the Middle East today. We want to thank Howard Gordon, Chris Keyser and their talented team of collaborators, including all the writers, directors, cast and crew, as well as our studio partners at Fox 21 Television Studios, for taking on Tyrant’s tremendously ambitious story with such profound dedication and respect.”
While never a ratings hit for the network, Tyrant was a decent performer over the majority of its run. The move to end the show comes after a third season where viewership tapered off quite significantly from what it was drawing in seasons 1 and 2.
While today's cancellation comes as sudden, producers have stated that tonight's series finale should prove to be a satisfying ending for the show's devoted fans.

I am still not sure how "satisfying" the ending was, and I am sure it was written as a season finale and not a series finale. If one's take away is that the names and faces change, but the attitudes, politics, and chaos in that region stays the same - I suppose that would be an appropriate end.

Loved this show, never missed an episode. The ending was NOT satisfying, it left a lot of doors open. I would really like to see what finally happens to Bassam. Hopefully someone else will pick up the show for another season! Fingers crossed!!!!!!!

Really great show which didn't really have any ending, unless you view Basam morphing into his father an ending. Even that was unclear. I really hope someone continues with this.

Sucks that the show is done but at least it came full circle last night. I'll miss it

I'm a bit upset; it looked like they were setting it up for a final season to wrap up. Yet I feel no sympathy for these characters as they've made them all unlikable.

I never watched it. All the initial commercials showed was orange sand or something floating around. I'd thought that someone stole all the orange kraft macaroni and cheese mix and this show was about the struggle to get it back.

Maybe it's a result of trying to compress future story plans into this final season, but I've found this last one disappointing. The drastic flip from an interestingly complex mixing of differing societies to a simplified stereotype picture of scheming angry Americans was very disappointing. Basam was enjoyable to watch struggle with his homeland upbringing and adopted American morality. This season he's a villian, with a mistress, responding to a revenge focused wife's demands to commit ever greater atrocities and it just never rang true. If this trend had continued, this would likely have been my last season anyway.

great show. each season told a story that was not like the previous season. not afraid to kill characters gave it an edge not found on many shows. showtime should pick it up as a companion piece to homeland.

This was a great show. It really captured the middle east of today. However when they killed off the main tyrant it was the death knell for this show. The acting on this show was great But without the real tyrant" I think many left it. The brother character being driven to desperate acts is not the same as the tyrant of the first two seasons. THAT was classic tv. This is a sad day for tv.
