The CW announced today that Jane the Virgin has been renewed for a fifth season. The acclaimed dramedy has been one of the network's lower-rated entries over the course of its run but has garnered its share of critical praise and awards show recognition.
Led by award-winning actress Gina Rodriguez, Jane the Virgin follows an aspiring writer in her mid-twenties who, despite her vow to protect her virginity until marriage, has her world turned upside down when she is accidentally artificially inseminated during a routine check-up.
While The CW has not revealed any details about Season 5, it is expected to be the show's last. At an SXSW panel last month, Rodriguez indicated that she would be directing more episodes in "our final season".
