Epix has announced that it is bringing back The Contender for what will be its fifth season. The Mark Burnett-created series is returning to television after a near 10-year absence.

A reality competition revolving around boxing, the show originally premiered on NBC in 2005, where it lasted just one season before being moved to ESPN for 2006 and 2007, and then to Versus in 2008.

The revived edition of The Contender will once-again be produced by Burnett. The show will feature 16 fighters taking part in elimination-style bouts that push them to their limits. Legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach and renowned trainer Naazim Richardson will work with and mentor the fighters, testing their skills, grit, and determination.

The cable network has ordered 12 episodes for Season 5, which is set to begin production shortly for an expected return sometime this summer.
