It's the end of the Marvel era at Netflix. The streaming service today cancelled both The Punisher and Jessica Jones, the two remaining series in its superhero lineup based on the comic giant's work. The move was somewhat expected after Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist were all given the ax late last year.

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as former Marine Frank Castle, who was originally introduced in the second season of Daredevil, as a no-nonsense hero who deals out his own brand of justice. Known throughout New York City as The Punisher, Frank is out to find the criminals responsible for the murder of his family and uncover the truth about a military conspiracy that affects more than just those he loves.

The action drama was the fifth original series on the streaming service based on a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its second, and now final, season premiered earlier this year.
