Netflix announced today that The Haunting of Hill House will be returning for a second season - sort of. Now referred to as simply the Haunting series, the horror drama will become an anthology going forward. The title of Season 2 is The Haunting of Bly Manor and will be based on the works of Henry James.
The series premiered last fall with its first season being a modern take on Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel of the same name. It quickly became a breakout hit for the streaming service, garnering strong critical praise and a large amount of buzz online. A second season seemed likely at the time, though fans wondered what direction it could possibly take.
Today's shift to an anthology series makes sense, as complete stories can be told going forward with each new chapter. It is unclear if any cast members from the first season will stay on with the series in new roles.
Look for The Haunting of Bly Manor to premiere in 2020.
