Netflix has announced that Dark will be returning for a third season that will conclude its story. The news comes ahead of the streaming drama's sophomore release, which is slated to arrive on June 21.
Series co-creator Baran bo Odar posted on his Instagram account that work has already begun on the trilogy's final season, which is eyeing a 2020 release. Along with thanking the show's fans from around the world, he noted that three seasons had been envisioned from the beginning.
The series premiered in 2017 as the first-ever German-based original on the streaming service. It wasn't long before it became one of Netflix's most-watched non-English shows, thanks to buzz generated by its captivating storytelling and unexpected plot twists.
Set in a small German town, Dark's story follows the disappearance of two young children, which ends up exposing the dark past of four families searching for the kids. The investigation reveals an intricate puzzle with supernatural elements that connects a web of curious characters to the town's troubled past.
