It is being reported that Netflix has changed its mind about the future of Queen Sono, cancelling the series rather than proceed with its previously-announced second season. The sad news, confirmed by creator Kagiso Lediga on Twitter, comes seven months after the crime drama was originally picked up for a sophomore run.
The show premiered back in February as the streaming giant's first African original series. Its 6-episode freshman run garnered a high amount of critical praise for its fun storytelling and well-executed action sequences. Unfortunately, the current global pandemic created insurmountable challenges that ultimately prevented its story from continuing.
Queen Sono follows a highly-skilled South African spy devoted to protecting her nation's people. After she unknowingly uncovers shocking details about her mother's death during a field assignment, she sets out on a new mission of her own dedicated to finding out the truth.

I'm surprised even the established shows are premiering new episodes. Imagine all the characters running around wearing masks.
