Netflix announced today that Cheer is coming back for a second season. The news arrives nearly two years after the docuseries' freshman run, which garnered widespread critical praise that resulted in multiple Emmy Award wins, including Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.
The show follows team members from the 14-time National Championship-winning cheer squad at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX. With high stakes on the line, they put themselves through brutal workouts and lengthy practice sessions. Throughout their pursuit of excellence, they face injuries, setbacks, and triumphs.
After finding success in Season 1, one of its stars, Jerry Harris, was arrested on felony charges of sexual misconduct involving minors. Season 2 of Cheer looks to address the controversy, showing how that and other factors like COVID-19 impacted the team.
Navarro Cheer is back and their rivals are stronger than ever.
