No Season 3 for the fantasy drama.
November 15, 2023
Word is out that Netflix has cancelled Shadow and Bone after two seasons. The news comes eight months after the fantasy drama released its 8-episode sophomore run.
Author Leigh Bardugo, who wrote the Grishaverse novels on which the series is based, took to Instagram to express her sadness over the cancellation while also giving gratitude to those involved in making the show. See the full post below.
The series takes place in a land divided by a barrier of perpetual darkness. There, sinister forces plot against a young female soldier who is revealed to have a magical power that could save her country from evil and unite her world.

This cancellation is even more ridiculous when you look at the netflix viewership data that they just published. Shadow & Bone had some -really- high viewership numbers.

It took me a few episodes to warm up to this show, but after 2 seasons, I’m fully invested. I had a feeling they would cancel it.

I love fantasy series and thought this was a nice show. Good plot, decent actors and intelligent storytelling. No wonder it was cancelled...not lowbrow enough?

Of course they did. Raise the prices, make it so your kids can’t share your account when they are away at college and cancel all the good shows.
They will be losing me very soon if they don’t get it together!

I'm starting to think I'm a curse for a series. Too many of the ones I like get cancelled. I totally agree with drew on the long wait in between seasons.
I'll play the old man I am. When I was much younger a series consisted of 12 - 20 episodes per season. Today 8 appears to be considered a long season.

They combined the 2 book series which was a mistake. Cramming way too much into the show. I think Six of Crows would've been the better show and probably would've stuck around a little longer. Less could've been more.

I loved season 1 and have seen it 2-3 times, I think. But season 2 sucked and I'm not surprised. But I had hoped they would make a season 3 to conclude the show.
But luckily its based on books, so people can just read those.

Sadly I'm not surprised at this. Season 1 took it's time, adding new material to include the Six of Crows characters into book 1 of the Shadow and Bone series, creating a well paced storyline that fans of the books and new watchers some could understand and enjoy. Season 2 blew through the content of the other 2 SaB books plus bits of the rest of the series and created a cliffhanger ending out of nowhere that we are now stuck with. They are through the book material so fast and yet also added in so much random extra stuff, I'm not at all surprised at the cancellation. There was barely any book material left for a season 3 of Alina's story.

It is a bit annoying that they cancel shows with no proper endings. But as mentioned by the other user, is been so long i really can't remember where it ended to be honest.
