It was announced today that The Night Manager has been picked up for two new seasons by Amazon and the BBC. The news comes eight years after the thriller aired its initial run, which at the time was billed as a miniseries.

Tom Hiddleston will be reprising the lead role, with him and Hugh Laurie also onboard as executive producers. Plus series creator David Farr will be returning as writer. Season 2 is slated to start filming sometime this year, with the story picking up eight years after the freshman finale.

"The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on," Hiddleston said in a statement. "The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect. I'm so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can't wait."

The Night Manager follows former British soldier Jonathan Pine, who is the night manager of a luxury hotel in Cairo. He is recruited by a Foreign and Commonwealth Office task force that is investigating illegal arms sales to infiltrate the inner circle of the dealer.
