AMC+ and Sundance Now announced today that Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale has been picked up for a second season. The news comes six months after the drama wrapped its 7-episode freshman run.
"Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale had an incredibly exciting and ravenous response from our viewers," said Shannon Cooper, Sundance Now Vice President, Programming. "We're thrilled to continue this supernatural journey in the new season, which promises unforeseen twists, shocking discoveries and intriguing new storylines and characters. We're thankful to the talented cast and creatives for their dedication and hard work as filming gets underway in Ireland."
Adapted from the novel by V.V. James, the series is set in the idyllic English town of Sanctuary, where witches have lived peacefully as valued members of society for hundreds of years. Sarah Fenn is the town's resident witch, on whom the town relies to solve their problems when conventional remedies fail. When a local teen rugby star dies tragically in an apparent accident, his death exposes a terrifying undercurrent of suspicion and fear towards Sarah and her teenage daughter. The rugby star's mother, once Sarah's closest friend, is wracked with grief, and launches a witch hunt to avenge her son's death.
Season 2 will pick up a year after the traumatic events of season one. Sarah and her daughter Harper are in hiding in Scotland, concealing Harper's extraordinary powers, but a dark cloud is descending as recent anti-witch legislation has increased hate crimes. As Sarah worries worse is to come, she's presented with a dramatic ultimatum - return to Sanctuary as the secret eyes and ears of the witch ruling body, The Moot, or have her magic bound. Determined to retain her powers and protect Harper at all costs, Sarah returns home just as a mysterious murder takes place, also drawing DCI Maggie Knight back to Sanctuary.
Look for Season 2 of Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale in 2025.
