Starz and Sky announced today that Sweetpea has been renewed for a second season. The news comes less than two months after the British comedic thriller released its 6-episode freshman run, which received a generally positive reception from both critics and fans. A video was posted on social media of star Ella Purnell letting fans know the show is coming back.
"Ella Purnell's killer performance captured the journey of a woman finally finding her voice, and we're thrilled with the response from critics and viewers," said Alison Hoffman, President, STARZ Networks. "Sweetpea's unique take on female agency is a perfect complement to STARZ's slate of programming for women. We're pleased to continue our partnership with Sky Studios and Ella Purnell in bringing another season of this addictive series to U.S. audiences."
The series follows Rhiannon Lewis, who doesn't make much of an impression - she's continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won't commit, and her dad is really sick. Then one day Rhiannon is finally pushed over the edge and loses control. The wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything... Rhiannon's life transforms as she steps into a new, intoxicating power, but can she keep her killer secret?

The show is based on a book serie, so I guess they still have plenty of material to use. I haven't read the books yet, but I assume the first season is based on book 1 - just like the Dexter show.
I'm looking forward to another season. I just hope they will keep up the good show. Way too offen the second season drops in quality.
