Showtime announced today that The Agency has been renewed for Season 2. The pickup is an early one, coming less than a week after its premiere. The political thriller is off to a strong start, garnering over 5 million global views on streaming and linear, ranking as the network's most-streamed new series in history.
"The success of The Agency is proof that our new Showtime slate is poised to propel Paramount+ to its next phase of growth," said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global co-CEO and president/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. "This achievement is a testament to the creative power of the team led by George Clooney, Jez Butterworth, Joe Wright and David Glasser and our incredible cast including Michael Fassbender, Richard Gere, Jodie Turner-Smith and Jeffrey Wright."
The series follows a covert CIA agent who has been ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites, leaving his career, real identity and mission pitted against his heart. This hurls them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.

Such news in early days is likely just a marketing ploy to boost viewership. If it's successful, then good. If it's not, then they could just say cancel without any repercussion, other than their reputation getting worse.
