Apple TV+ announced today that Women in Blue (Las Azules) has been renewed for a second season. The news comes eight months after the Spanish-language drama wrapped its 10-episode freshman run, which garnered high praise from critics and viewers alike.
Set in 1971 and inspired by true events, the series tells the story of four women who defy the ultraconservative norms of the time and join Mexico's first female police force, only to discover that their squad is a publicity stunt to distract the media from a brutal serial killer. As the body count grows, the women set up a secret investigation to achieve what no male officer has been able to do and bring the serial killer to justice.
In Season 2, Maria is now a lieutenant, finding herself torn between the rules she was sworn to uphold and a relentless pull towards the truth when the murder of a young university student is followed by more casualties and reveals a deeper conspiracy. As the killings grow bolder, the lines between perpetrator, victim, and avenger start to blur.
Production on the 8-episode Season 2 of Women in Blue is already underway.
