No Season 2 for the medical drama.

It is being reported that ABC has cancelled Doctor Odyssey after just one season. The news comes just over a month after the medical drama wrapped its 18-episode freshman run.
Before today, the show was the only ABC drama with its fate for next season still undecided. But that changed when news spread that the cast's contracts are set to expire on Monday and will not be picked up.
The series follows Dr. Max Bankman, the new on-board doctor for a luxury cruise ship where the staff works hard and plays harder. It's all hands on deck as Max and his small but capable medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other while miles from shore.

Even though i liked the show, the best part for me were the parts/episodes that lasted longer then a week and had some excitement in them...
for the most part it was person 1,2,3... case 1,2,3 episode done.
Which made it feel a bit hollow and quickly done..For me it came down to "everyone" could write a script for an episode in the line of;
A Bereavment cruise. All guests lost someone lately and need an outlet... 2 people find each other and 1 turned out to be the (long time)carrier of Hep C..
One woman thinks about jumping overboard as she misses her husband so much..ends up overdosing on god knows what.. Doc finds out and after a blood transfusions she is fine... A man finds out love is hard to find and uses a toy on himself..gets stuck.. Dr and Tristan solve it with many laughs...
Tristan meanwhile gets an offer to work on another ship and thinks about it the whole episode as Avery goes to med school anyway... still decides to stay loyal thanks to Max his efforts to keep him.
There we go..another episode in the books ;)...

This was a horrible show. The stories were really bad and the acting wooden. It was a kind of update to "The Love Boat", which is a now outdated concept that couldn't be rescued.

ABC didn't cancel this show. People not watching it till season 2 did. ABC doesn't replace shows with reality tv. People unwilling to support a first season of scripted tv ask for reality shows.
If you want a show where every episode is stand alone , with no possibility of cliffhangers or unanswered questions, you want reality tv. Watching good tv takes risks. Shows might not hit but when they do it is worth it.
If your unwilling to take chances then sell your tv. You are not part of the problem, you are the WHOLE PROBLEM.

According to an interview with ABC, the show has not been cancelled just put on hold. Ryan Murphy and the network are figuring out what to do next. I realize this pretty much feels like a cancellation, but at least there's hope.

I figured since it took so long to announce. It was bad in so many ways, but it was a guilty pleasure in a way. Loved Don Johnson in it. I just am kinda glad since Avery was going off to be a doctor. Ryan Murphy ruined Glee when he had kids at the school and kids in New York (IMHO), and if they would do something similar it would've been awful. ABC Already Been Canceled strikes again!!!

This is why I wait until a S2 commitment to watch any new show and especially those on ABC aka AlwaysBeingCanceled!!

Come on ABC. This was a really enjoyable show. I guess they need the time slot for another version of the Bachelor or some other reality show I won't watch.
