Stephen Colbert will be the talk show's last host.

In a surprise move, CBS announced today that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be ending in 2026. And with it, the 'Late Show' franchise is also being retired, ending the network's decades-long history of late night programming that began in 1993. Colbert informed his viewers of the move during Thursday night's broadcast.
"The Late Show With Stephen Colbert will end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season," said CBS executives in a statement. "We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire The Late Show franchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television. This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount."
While Colbert's current contract does end at the end of 2026, the timing of the cancellation does raise questions. It comes days after Colbert criticized Paramount Global's decision to settle a lawsuit by President Donald Trump for $16 million, with him calling it a "big fat bribe." There has also been recent speculation that Skydance Media, which is acquiring Paramount Global, may not agree with Colbert's views on the current political climate.
On the other hand, CBS has already been cutting back its late night programming. 'After Midnight' was recently cancelled after host Taylor Tomlinson decided to leave the show. The late night business in general has also been on the decline in recent years.

To "curious" Stephen Colbert is the highest rated late night show today and the "political agenda" has been profitable for twenty years and the daily show and Jimmy Kimmel are not going anywhere, conservatives can't keep a show on for more than a year and that moron Dr Phil's network merit just went bankrupt.

I don't believe it was "purely financial" because those backstabbers at paramount just spent millions for the streaming rights to South Park, but I also don't totally believe Trump had anything to do with it because the show gets another ten months instead of being pulled after a few weeks. We need late show hosts because it's the only accurate news since the Bush presidency, and that idiot Trump already forced himself into the Kennedy center. I'm sad about losing Colbert but I'm not worried about the president going after all shows he doesn't like because he doesn't have enough nuts in his sack to do it. Colbert is going to come out of this just bigger than before because everyone knows this was wrong just like what happened to Conan O'Brien's tonight show. SHOW THE EPSTEIN FILES!

Stephen was a hater, and if you weren't on his side you were nothing.
All he did was make fun of people like like a bully.
Stephen forgot what his job was, and that was to be an entertainment host - make people laugh.
He lost 52% of his audience after his 3rd year and never recovered. And was loosing nearly 40 million a year because advertisers left.
You know its ashamed even in the write up 'IsMyShowCancelled' included the nonsense part that he was canceled because he was critical of our President, if that were the case he'd be gone already.
Remember Stephen isn't funny, he just makes fun of people.
